Our Philosophy
When choosing a dentist there are many things to consider including location, price and availability. Something that may not be so obvious is the philosophy of the practice and it’s approach to dentistry.
Here at O’Connors Dental we have a real focus on preventative dentistry, working with our patients to prevent disease (tooth decay and periodontal or gum disease) before it causes problems. We will advise tailor made care to optimise your dental health.
The practice has been operating for a long time and we hope to develop long-term relationships with our patients and over time help them learn how to improve their dental health and educate about any dental conditions they may have.
Sometimes of course intervention is needed and we use the latest techniques and the least invasive methods to try and keep your natural teeth for as long as possible.
More invasive or complex procedures may also be required, such as some endodontic treatments (root canal treatment), oral surgery and more advanced cosmetic procedures. We can refer to local specialists for these treatments.
We also understand that sometimes the real world just gets in the way of our best plans to keep on top of our oral health. We will never judge or lecture you. Similarly some people really hate going to the dentist and – despite our best efforts- only want to come when there is a problem. That’s fine too.
We look forward to welcoming you.
If you would like to book an appointment please call our receptionist on 020 87786797 or click below. We offer both NHS and Private dental care. NHS funding is capped so our waiting list for new NHS patients depends on current demand and availability.
Dr Ameet Gadher and Dermot O’Connor are available for private appointments. A new patient consultation and dental health assessment is £75 (price includes any necessary X-rays). Please click here to see our private fees. Please click on the link below to book or call 02087786797.
Before your visit we will ask you to fill out a medical history form online so we can provide safe and effective treatment.
At your appointment the dentist will discuss with you any concerns or problems you may have been experiencing with your teeth or gums.
The dentist will then carry out a thorough examination to include:
- Assessment of your jaw joint (TMJ-temporomandibular joint) and if any clicks or tenderness.
- Assessment of the soft tissues of the mouth to check for any signs of oral cancer or other diseases.
- Assessment of the teeth and any fillings or crowns/caps etc present.
- Assessment of tooth wear and any bruxing (tooth grinding) habits.
- Screening for gum (periodontal) disease and assessment of oral hygiene.
The dentist may need to carry out further tests e.g. x-rays for further information.
A treatment plan will be created for any dental work needed and preventative advice given about how to look after your teeth and gums. Your dentist will also advise when you should next attend for a check-up.
